Affordable Framing Ideas
FRAMING YOUR VINTAGE MOVIE POSTER:
Framing can be an unexpectedly costly expense of vintage movie poster collecting. It doesn't have to be. We have developed a number of affordable, if not downright cheap, ways to preserve and display your vintage movie posters.
B5 JAPANESE CHIRASHI:
Chirashi are cheap to frame. Even a custom frame will be far less costly than something for a larger poster. There are also a number of CHIRASHI B5 frames which can be ordered from Japan where B5 is a standard size. However, the cheapest solution is to order THIS FRAME FROM IKEA and then order a CUSTOM MATTE. As of this writing, the total cost of both the matte and frame is under $18.00.
B2 JAPANESE MOVIE POSTERS:
Japanese B2 size posters are often custom framed since they're not a standard U.S. size. This is the recommended approach. However if the cost is prohibitive, there is an IKEA FRAME which works surprisingly well. No custom matte is even required if you don't mind slightly less of the poster area being displayed. This provides the option of framing your B2 vintage poster for under $25.00.
FRENCH GRANDE POSTERS:
Extremely large posters, such as French Grande which measure 47" x 63," are extremely costly to custom frame. However, there are THESE STANDARD FRAMES which many collectors swear by. They are available for under $200.
Some vintage U.S. film posters will fit in standard size frames which drastically reduces the cost of framing them. There are also options such as these hanging bars but they do not protect your poster and may even damage it slightly. In most cases, custom framing remains the recommended option.
